Alan Ritchson Eyes Call of Duty Movie Role

The Reacher star told Collider he's interested in Taylor Sheridan and Peter Berg's adaptation.

Alan Ritchson wants in on the Call of Duty movie. The Reacher star told Collider he has thrown his hat in the ring for the project, which is being written by Taylor Sheridan and directed by Peter Berg. No cast has been announced yet, but Ritchson said, "I do love Call of Duty, man… if the story is right."

Ritchson admitted he is nervous about video game adaptations because many have gone wrong. He told Collider the ones that work are made for kids, or are fun and self-aware. "But ones that take themselves too seriously… It has to know what it is and it has to be ready to have a good time," he said.

The actor also knows which part of the games he would like to play: Zombies. Ritchson called that mode the best part of Call of Duty, though the movie is currently expected to take place in the Modern Warfare universe.

Sheridan wrote Sicario and Hell or High Water before creating Yellowstone. Berg directed Lone Survivor, Deepwater Horizon and Patriots Day. Ritchson has spent four seasons of Reacher handling military action, and Sheridan knows his way around armed men having a bad day, Collider notes.

Ritchson has not been cast, so this is him saying he would like the job, not that he has it. The Call of Duty movie does not yet have an official release date.

This is a smart match. Ritchson's Reacher work proves he can handle the physical side, and Sheridan and Berg have the action credentials. I hope the story is right for him.
