Battlestar Galactica's Cerberus statue: 500 made, $74.99

Master Replicas has confirmed a limited edition statue of the classic-era battlestar, and it is due to reach buyers this month.

Master Replicas has confirmed a limited edition statue of the Battlestar Cerberus, Screen Rant reports. The Battlestar Galactica (Classic) Cerberus Limited Edition depicts the classic-era ship from the 1978 series, and it arrives as the newest piece of merchandise built around the franchise.

The numbers are the interesting part. Screen Rant reports the run is capped at 500, the statue is made from die-cast and ABS, it measures 10.5 inches in length, and it costs $74.99. The statue should reach buyers this month, though Master Replicas has not named a date.

"The Battlestar Cerberus is being made in a limited edition of just 500."

That line comes from Master Replicas' own product description, quoted by Screen Rant. The same description explains why this ship and not another one. In the 1978 series, viewers were told the Colonial fleet had twelve battlestars, and only eight were named on screen. Three further names, Solaria, Cerberus and Prometheus, were intended to join that fleet if the show had continued, which makes the Cerberus a ship with a name and no screen time.

One buying note before you add it to a cart: Screen Rant says the statue is meant as a piece of art rather than a toy.

The screen side of the franchise is a separate story. Screen Rant reports that Peacock passed on a reboot from Sam Esmail, of Mr Robot, and Universal Content Productions. Simon Kinberg has completed a feature film script, production has not started, and Screen Rant notes talk of the film belonging to a wider universe.

What it probably means

A $74.99 statue of a ship that never appeared on screen, capped at 500 units, is about as narrow as merchandise gets, and that is the appeal. The script is the more interesting half of this story: a limited edition keeps a memory alive, and a finished screenplay is the only thing here that could put the fleet back on a screen.
