Every Tom Cruise Movie Since 2016, Ranked by Collider
The outlet ranks the action star's eight films from the past decade, from 'The Mummy' to 'Top Gun: Maverick.'

Collider has ranked every Tom Cruise movie released since 2016, and the list runs from a career low to a career best.
The bottom of the list starts with 2017's "The Mummy." Collider calls it a failed reboot that tries to be a horror film, an action adventure and a superhero blockbuster at once and gets none of them right. Cruise's performance doesn't fit the selfish antihero role, the outlet writes, leaving a jumbled mess.
Next is "Jack Reacher: Never Go Back" (2016). The sequel is forgettable, according to Collider. The villain, the conspiracy, the action and even Cruise's performance all fall flat, making it one of his most unremarkable projects.
Third from the bottom is "Digger," a satirical comedy directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu. Collider notes that while some critics adore it and Cruise delivers a career-defining performance, the film is polarizing. The bizarre caricature of fragile egos doesn't connect with most audiences, placing it low despite the ambition.
Moving up, the worst of the three recent "Mission: Impossible" films is "The Final Reckoning." Collider says it faced the impossible task of ending a legendary franchise and succeeded with a grand send off and one of Cruise's best on screen stunts. Still, it ranks below its predecessors.
"American Made" (2017) lands in the middle. The outlet praises Cruise for abandoning his usual style in favor of a completely unhinged, chaotic performance. The fast paced bundle of exhilaration combines gritty truth with hilarious absurdity, and Cruise flexes his acting muscles as a sleazy pilot.
"Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One" (2023) takes a spot near the top. Collider describes it as a magnificent pace of non stop exhilaration, with the motorbike stunt among Cruise's best and a train sequence that is absolute spectacle. The AI plot feels tired, but the action makes up for it.
The runner up is "Mission: Impossible – Fallout" (2018). Collider calls it an action masterclass, highlighting the HALO jump and the legendary bicep reload. Beyond the stunts, it's an emotional payoff and a turning point for the franchise, showcasing some of Cruise's best work.
At number one, "Top Gun: Maverick" (2022). Collider calls it the gold standard for legacy sequels, with authentic stunts that immerse viewers and a sincere story. Cruise's performance and dynamic with the cast elevate the film beyond spectacle. The outlet says it's arguably not just his best of the decade but of all time.
Collider's ranking makes one thing clear: even when Cruise stumbles, his highs are sky high.
