Harlan Coben’s Final Twist Season 2: ‘Bonkers’ Premiere

The true-crime host tells THR the season 2 opener is ‘bonkers,’ and explains why real life doesn’t have to follow fiction’s rules.

Harlan Coben’s Final Twist

Harlan Coben’s Final Twist is back, and the author is making a promise: the season 2 premiere is “bonkers.”

The true-crime series returns Monday on CBS and Paramount+ with 12 episodes, up from five in season 1. Coben, who has sold more than 100 million books, told The Hollywood Reporter he learned from the first batch and hopes “this season will be even better.”

The premiere, “Betsy’s Trust,” looks at the Betsy Faria murder case. Faria was found stabbed to death in her Missouri home, and police initially suspected suicide, THR reports. The case kept twisting, with more dead bodies leading back to Faria’s murder.

“This first episode tonight is bonkers. I can’t wait for people to see it.”

Coben’s pitch for the show is the gap between fiction and real life. “Fiction has to follow rules. Reality doesn’t,” he told THR. If Faria’s story were one of his novels, he said, readers would throw the book at his head.

He also thinks he improved as a host. In season 1 he felt like he was reading lines. Now he says he’s “definitely less stiff and less cautious.”

Coben isn’t slowing down. He told THR he’s writing another novel and filming two Netflix adaptations: The Woods, starring Michelle Keegan and Tom Bateman, and Myron Bolitar, with Colin Woodell, KJ Apa, Diane Guerrero, Chloe Fineman, Bebe Neuwirth and Griffin Dunne. The Bolitar series is shooting a murder-at-the-U.S.-Open scene, per THR.
