Punisher’s Time Gun Debuts: An Infinity Gauntlet-Level Weapon

Frank Castle obtains a weapon that can rewrite history in The Punisher #8, with only 10 bullets remaining.

Screen Rant reports that Marvel Comics writer Benjamin Percy has introduced a new weapon in The Punisher #8 that carries potential comparable to the Infinity Gauntlet. The issue ends on a cliffhanger, with Frank Castle acquiring a literal time gun from a decommissioned S.H.I.E.L.D. vault using a Level 5 security clearance card. Deadpool and Blind Al were hired to break into that vault and steal the gun, setting up a conflict between the two antiheroes.

Preview pages for Wade Wilson: Deadpool #9 reveal that the time gun is loaded with only 10 uniquely crafted bullets. During a scuffle, Deadpool hurls a katana at Punisher, impaling his hand and causing him to drop the gun. The weapon fires upon hitting the floor, opening a blue portal roughly 10,000 years in the past and blasting a saber-toothed tiger’s head clean off. Assistant editor Cy Pedro Beltran has suggested that this makes Deadpool responsible for the extinction of the saber-toothed tiger. Nine bullets remain.

Punisher’s first instinct is to use the gun to kill those who murdered his family, which could theoretically bring them back to life in the present day. Screen Rant notes that such a retcon would be a major status quo change for Marvel Comics. The solicitation for Wade Wilson: Deadpool #9 teases that either Bullseye or Black Hole may get their hands on the weapon before either Punisher or Deadpool can use it for personal gain. Screen Rant describes the time gun as a retcon weapon, though it remains to be seen whether Marvel will allow it to have a lasting impact on the universe.

Wade Wilson: Deadpool #9 is scheduled for release on October 14, 2026.
