Screen Rant has released its ranking of the 20 best horror movies of all time. The publication’s list focuses on films that reshaped what horror could do, whether through low-budget inventiveness, social commentary, or sheer nightmare fuel.

Among the picks: Sam Raimi’s "The Evil Dead," cited for its influential independent style, and Ryan Coogler’s "Sinners," which Screen Rant says uses vampire mythology to explore racism and faith. The 1981 psychological horror "Possession" makes the cut, with Isabelle Adjani’s performance called one of the genre’s best. Classics like Ridley Scott’s "Alien," John Carpenter’s "Halloween" and "The Thing," and the 1931 "Frankenstein" are all present, alongside silent-era standout "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari."

Modern entries include Jordan Peele’s "Get Out" and the 1963 haunted house film "The Haunting." Screen Rant notes that many of these movies initially flopped or faced censorship before later being recognized as genre landmarks. The full list is on their site, and most are available to stream.
