Star Trek: Outposts Unknown Launches October 20, Shifts Genres
Screen Rant reports the narrative-driven strategy game swaps starship combat for colony management when it arrives on PC.

Star Trek is officially switching genres on October 20. Screen Rant reports that Star Trek: Outposts Unknown is a narrative-driven strategy game focused on building and colony management, not the usual sci-fi action adventures the franchise is known for.
Developer Magic Fuel Games calls it the first-ever outpost builder set in the Star Trek universe. Players will construct research facilities, manage resources, assign crew tasks, and keep morale up while facing a mysterious cosmic threat. The game’s original story takes place during the 23rd century, alongside the era of Strange New Worlds.
This is a clever inversion of Star Trek’s oldest idea. Boldly going somewhere new is only the start; now you have to build there and survive. The game launches on October 20, 2026, through Steam, published by Playstack. Only a PC version has been confirmed; no PlayStation, Xbox, or Switch release has been announced.
One major detail remains unconfirmed as of October 5. Screen Rant says the Steam page does not list a purchase price or offer a preorder option. Players can only wishlist the game for a notification. A playable demo was released in June offering roughly three hours of gameplay, but Screen Rant notes that demo is no longer available. Outposts Unknown is a single-player experience and will support Steam Achievements, Steam Cloud, and Family Sharing.
