Terminator Zero: Screen Rant Hails Best Franchise Entry Since T2

Screen Rant says the 2024 eight-episode animated series blends the best of Ghost in the Shell and The Terminator, calling it the franchise's strongest project in over a decade.

Screen Rant is making a case for a show you probably missed. "Terminator Zero," Netflix's eight-episode animated series from 2024, is getting a quiet second wind. They call it the franchise's best project since "Terminator 2."

The series is set in 1997 Japan. It follows Malcolm Lee, a scientist building an AI to fight Skynet. Timothy Olyphant voices the Terminator. A fighter named Eiko arrives from 2022 to stop him.

Screen Rant argues it works where the movies failed. The live-action sequels kept rebooting. "Terminator 3" had a tone problem. "Genisys" and "Dark Fate" were convoluted. The eight-episode season gives the time-travel plot room to breathe.

There is a Netflix factor here. Screen Rant compares it to "1899" and "Altered Carbon," good sci-fi shows that did not get the mainstream traction they deserved. "Terminator Zero" got critical acclaim but joined that pile. It sits there as an underrated gem.

The verdict from Screen Rant is clear. It is immersive. The complicated timeline is not byzantine. For a franchise that has made a lot of noise, this is strong praise. If you want a sci-fi series that respects its source material, Screen Rant says to start here.
