The Conjuring: Unspoken Comes to Netflix Next Week

Screen Rant reports that the interactive horror game from Until Dawn developer Supermassive Games arrives on Netflix on October 13, letting players investigate a haunted English inn using a phone as a controller.

The Conjuring franchise is expanding beyond movies. Screen Rant reports that a new game, The Conjuring: Unspoken, is coming to Netflix on October 13.

The game comes from Supermassive Games, the studio behind Until Dawn and The Quarry. While those earlier titles leaned on teen horror tropes, this one goes for the paranormal investigation the films are known for. Screen Rant says the setting is the Red Lion Inn, a centuries-old English establishment reported to be haunted. Players take on the role of a demonologist named Francesca Noakes, using ghost-hunting tools to scan the surroundings for spirits.

Gameplay works by using a phone to control those tools, with the action displayed on the TV. Screen Rant notes that Netflix's gaming ventures have been a mixed bag, but this title feels like it takes advantage of the platform: Supermassive Games has practice making interactive movies, and using a phone as a controller makes sense here. Some fans may wish for traditional console play, but Screen Rant suggests that was likely never an option for this project.

As for whether the game lives up to the Conjuring name, Screen Rant points out that the franchise's critical reception has been uneven. The first two films got strong reviews, but The Devil Made Me Do It and Last Rites were weaker. The spin-offs have been inconsistent. The report hopes The Conjuring: Unspoken reverses the trend, but subscribers won't have to wait long to find out the game drops in a week.
