Zelda: Winds of Time Is a Wind Waker-Style Ocarina Remake

A fan-made project rebuilds Ocarina of Time in Wind Waker's art style, and Screen Rant has the details.

Screen Rant reports on a fan project called The Legend of Zelda: Winds of Time. It is an unofficial remake that brings The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time into the visual world of The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker.

The original Ocarina of Time launched in 1998 and has not appeared on the Nintendo Switch or the Switch 2. That has kept remake rumors alive, Screen Rant notes, alongside talk of a new 2D Zelda game. Until Nintendo announces something official, Winds of Time is what fans have.

Modder and YouTuber BigSharkZ posted a progress video last year. It shows off some of Ocarina of Time's most recognizable locations and features that have been added so far. Screen Rant describes the work as a labor of love built from the ground up.

The project began as an April Fool's joke. BigSharkZ has had to step back from it in recent years because of personal commitments, but the video demonstrates how far it has come.

Screen Rant argues Winds of Time makes a case for more Toon Link. After Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, the outlet says fans would like to see the series return to a cartoon-style, cel-shaded Link. Whether that inspires Nintendo or earns the project a DMCA notice remains to be seen.
