Avengers: Endgame Encore's Premium Scene Gamble
Collider reports the re-release earned $126 million worldwide but locked one of four new scenes behind pricier Infinity Vision tickets, a move that could reshape how Disney handles future Marvel films.

Disney made $126 million worldwide in a week by re-releasing a movie you already own. That part is smart. What comes next is the problem.
Collider reports that the re-release, titled "Avengers: Endgame Encore," includes four new sequences: an extended ending and three post-credits scenes. The extended ending shows Loki interrupting Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter's slow-dance. The three post-credits scenes involve Bruce Banner in an underground vault hearing Doctor Doom's voice, the TVA headquarters lighting up with incursions, and Doom hammering out his metal mask. Only three of those four are available to viewers in standard theaters. The TVA scene is exclusive to Infinity Vision and IMAX screenings, which cost $6 to $8 more per ticket on average.
Collider notes that Disney did not explicitly promote that exclusivity in advance. The outlet argues the move sets a dangerous precedent, especially since half of the initial domestic box office for the re-release came from Infinity Vision screens. Per Deadline, Disney is going all-in on Infinity Vision, meaning this tiered-access model could become standard.
The next test arrives with the announced re-release of "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" with extra footage. If Disney makes that footage available to all screenings, they are listening to fans who objected to the "Endgame Encore" approach. If not, Collider writes, the message is clear: they do not care about the optics.
None of this is about the re-release itself, which would have succeeded without the exclusive scene. It's about treating paying more as a feature, not a bug. If Disney keeps this up, the question becomes whether "Avengers: Doomsday" itself will eventually require a premium ticket to get the full story.
