Collider Ranks the Top Fantasy Books of the Last 15 Years
The outlet's list highlights a broad range of recent fantasy, from N.K. Jemisin's bleak epic to Susanna Clarke's mysterious Piranesi.

Collider has published a ranked list of the 10 greatest fantasy books from the last 15 years, covering works released roughly between 2008 and 2023. The list, the outlet says, demonstrates how broad the genre has become, from classic dragon-and-magic epics to more personal and revisionist stories.
Topping the list is N.K. Jemisin's "The Fifth Season," the first book in the Broken Earth trilogy. Collider calls it "bleak, inventive, and structurally daring," noting its setting on a continent devastated by catastrophic geological events and its exploration of a society that fears and persecutes its most essential citizens.
Other high-ranking entries include Susanna Clarke's "Piranesi," a mysterious tale set in an endless House filled with statues and tides. Collider describes the book as "gorgeous, mysterious" and praises its "charm" and lyrical prose. Terry Pratchett's final Discworld novel, "The Shepherd's Crown," also makes the list; Collider notes it feels "unusually vulnerable for Discworld, in the best way."
The list also features Brandon Sanderson's "Rhythm of War," Madeline Miller's "Circe," and George R.R. Martin's "A Dance with Dragons." Collider's ranking is a reminder of the genre's vitality and variety over the past decade and a half.
