Jamie Foxx's New Special: Why He Cut Jokes After Kevin Hart Roast
Jamie Foxx tells The Hollywood Reporter he trimmed his new Hulu special after the Kevin Hart roast because people got too sensitive.

Jamie Foxx is back with a new stand-up special, Take Care of Yourself, on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ on Wednesday, Oct. 7. It's a different tone from his 2024 Netflix special, What Had Happened Was, which he taped a year after a brain bleed led to a stroke that nearly killed him. This one has fewer tears and more cracks, aimed at himself and other celebs his age, about being at a stage where people just tell him to take care of himself. He also takes jabs at Kim Kardashian and Donald Trump, and at the people who voted for him.
Foxx, 58, told The Hollywood Reporter he cut material after the Kevin Hart roast. "After that Kevin Hart roast, I had to cut everything," he said, because "people became too sensitive." He added, "I didn't like the George Floyd shit at all." He said he wants to keep his act refreshed without bending anyone "into a pretzel."
He also addressed fellow comedians, including Katt Williams, who said his last special wasn't funny. "That's better for me because now I got something to talk about," Foxx said. He revealed he and Williams are working together on something: "Why doesn't Katt have his own movie, his own vehicle? It's time."
On politics, Foxx said, "I'm a Democrat. I ain't never changing." He joked that Trump gives comedians material every day but noted, "Too much politics now, everybody is so, I guess, sensitive."
He declined to do Shannon Sharpe's Club Shay Shay podcast, saying, "I don't want to have to do whatever it is to get the algorithm popping. You got to talk crazy shit."
On fatherhood again, with a third child on the way, Foxx said, "I miss the kid part, so this will be great." His oldest daughter runs his company at 32, and his 17-year-old runs the biggest Halloween festival in Southern California.
He also addressed the tears at the end of his routine: "I almost died. When you almost died, you're not going to be like, 'knock knock, who's there.'"
Take Care of Yourself releases on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ on Oct. 7.
