Mackie Confirms He's in 'Avengers: Secret Wars'
Anthony Mackie revealed that his Captain America will return for the sequel to Avengers: Doomsday, despite his earlier hints that 'everyone is expendable.'

Anthony Mackie will be back as Sam Wilson in "Avengers: Secret Wars." He confirmed it during a conversation with Deadline about his upcoming Broadway run as Macbeth.
"So once I finish on Broadway, I'll go to finish up all the Avengers stuff for Secret Wars," Mackie told Deadline, as reported by Collider.
That's a direct contradiction of the vibe he'd been putting out. Earlier this year, Mackie assured fans that "everyone is expendable" in the Russo brothers' "Avengers: Doomsday," which he said would end on an impactful cliffhanger. The comment made people wonder whether Sam Wilson would make it out alive.
He will, apparently. At least long enough to appear in the second movie. What happens after "Secret Wars" is still anyone's guess.
"Doomsday" is set to pit the New Avengers, the Fantastic Four, the Wakandans, the old Fox X-Men and others against Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom. The teaser suggests Doom may be a bigger threat than Thanos. Mackie's earlier line about expendability fits that darker tone, even if it doesn't apply to him.
Mackie will wrap his Broadway run first, then join the "Secret Wars" production. The Russos are expected to start filming even sooner, given the scale of the crossover and its importance to the MCU's future.
