Man of Tomorrow to Set Up Lanterns Season 2, Per Screen Rant

Screen Rant reports that the Lanterns season 1 finale and writer Tom King's comments set the stage for John Stewart's arc in James Gunn's Man of Tomorrow, which could define a second season.

Lanterns season 1 is streaming now on HBO Max. A second season hasn't been confirmed, but Screen Rant reports that John Stewart's arc in James Gunn's 2027 film Man of Tomorrow will likely set it up.

Screen Rant writes that in the season 1 finale, John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) makes a deal with Guy Gardner: he'll protect Earth as an independent Green Lantern, and if the Guardians object, he'll expose their history creating the Manhunter program. The outlet also quotes writer Tom King from behind-the-scenes features: "The other Green Lanterns are cops, but John Stewart is a superhero."

Screen Rant argues that this distinction will carry into Man of Tomorrow, where Superman (David Corenswet) and Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) face Brainiac. John Stewart could take Guy's place on the Justice Gang or prove himself as a hero in his own right, helping defeat the cosmic threat. A big-screen success would strengthen his position with the Guardians.

That could set the stage for a very different Lanterns season 2. Screen Rant notes that the first season's Earth-bound mystery is resolved, leaving room for higher cosmic stakes and John Stewart operating outside the Corps' chain of command. The movie could help the show make that leap, per Screen Rant.
