Netflix Adds The Boogeyman, 8 Mile, Call Me by Your Name

Collider picks a Stephen King horror, an Eminem drama and a Timothée Chalamet favorite from Netflix's new arrivals.

October means a fresh batch of titles on US Netflix, and Collider has picked three worth your time. The same roundup opens with box office numbers that explain a lot about studio math.

Over the weekend, Anne Hathaway's Verity opened to $32 million domestically, Collider reports. Digger, which pairs Tom Cruise with Academy Award-winning director Alejandro G. Iñárritu, took in $8 million and finished fifth. That is the gap between a Colleen Hoover adaptation and a star-driven swing.

The Boogeyman

Rob Savage directed this adaptation of Stephen King's short story. It follows two sisters and their therapist dad, played by Chris Messina, after they lose their mother and a supernatural presence moves in. Sophie Thatcher, a year after the horror hit Heretic, and Vivien Lyra Blair co-star. Collider says it does not reach King's level of nightmare fuel, but the 98-minute runtime has enough to keep you awake.

8 Mile

Curtis Hanson's 8 Mile stars Eminem as Jimmy, a Detroit rapper trying to make a name for himself. Collider notes the story draws on Eminem's own upbringing in Detroit. The supporting cast includes Kim Basinger, Michael Shannon, Brittany Murphy and Anthony Mackie in his feature debut.

Call Me by Your Name

Timothée Chalamet plays Elio, a 17-year-old spending an Italian summer with Oliver, played by Armie Hammer. Collider notes the film is widely considered Luca Guadagnino's best and one of Chalamet's most important performances. It also arrives ahead of Dune: Part Three, which Collider says is due in December.

Start with Call Me by Your Name if you somehow have not seen it, before the Dune: Part Three campaign makes Chalamet's back catalog unavoidable. The Boogeyman is the one-sitting horror pick. 8 Mile is the drama with a soundtrack and a cast that aged very well.
