Ketchup Entertainment, the distributor that picked up Coyote vs. Acme after Warner Bros. shelved it, now has a new Owen Wilson comedy with a small opening. Screen Rant reports, citing Box Office Mojo, that Rolling Loud: The Movie made $354,093 over three days in 930 theaters, finishing at No. 17.

Jeremy Garelick (Murder Mystery 2) wrote and directed the film. Wilson plays a father who takes his 13-year-old son, played by Christian Convery, to the Rolling Loud festival without telling his wife. He loses the boy almost immediately, then spends the night trying to find him with help from coworker Matt Rife and festival volunteer Christine Ko. Ketchup released the movie in North America on Oct. 2.

The box office math

The three-day take works out to $380 per screen. For comparison, Verity and Digger each opened in more than 3,000 theaters and finished in the top five. The $380 average also fell behind movies that played on fewer screens, including Cosi Fan Tutte on 646 and Drishyam: The Conclusion on 541.

Screen Rant says the $380 average ranks 137th lowest among all-time domestic per-screen debuts.

Screen Rant lists the 2026 non-re-release movies on that all-time list:

  • No. 16: The Stunt Driver, $159
  • No. 23: Charlie Harper, $169
  • No. 30: Buffalo Kids, $203
  • No. 80: Infinite Icon: A Visual Memoir, $295
  • No. 89: Tom and Jerry: Forbidden Compass, $311
  • No. 90: Night Patrol, $312
  • No. 137: Rolling Loud: The Movie, $380
  • No. 145: Mystery Science Theater 3000: The RiffTrax Experiments: Sting of Death, $407
  • No. 176: Desert Warrior, $483
  • No. 178: Beware Boiúna, $490
  • No. 200: All You Need Is Kill, $547

Screen Rant says no other Owen Wilson movie appears on that list. Even Zoolander, which underperformed when it opened a few weeks after 9/11, never landed on it. Bottle Rocket, Wes Anderson's first feature, played in just 28 theaters and averaged $4,432 per screen.

Screen Rant adds that the film's budget and the amount Ketchup paid for the rights have not been disclosed, so it is hard to call this a true disappointment yet. Screen Rant reports that Wilson's next known release is Focker-in-Law, a sequel in which he reprises Kevin, Pam's ex-boyfriend from Meet the Parents. It opens Nov. 25.
