A Quiet Place: Rising Tides Writer Shares Personal Story
Screen Rant's exclusive interview with writer Declan Shalvey reveals the emotional core of the upcoming comic.

Screen Rant reports that the A Quiet Place franchise is heading to the open water with its next comic. A Quiet Place: Rising Tides, a follow-up to this year's A Quiet Place: Storm Warning, is slated for a Nov. 18 release from IDW Publishing.
The comic is written by Declan Shalvey, known for work on Moon Knight and Terminator, with art by Luke Sparrow. It's part of IDW's Dark imprint. Unlike the films, Rising Tides introduces new characters rather than continuing the movie's survivors.
According to IDW's official solicitation, the story centers on Grace, a young woman who tracks down her estranged father on a houseboat in the Florida Keys. The world ends as the alien invasion begins. The two are left clinging to survival on the open water, with her father sick and his oxygen supply running low. Supplies are dwindling, and a hurricane is approaching.
Shalvey told Screen Rant the story comes from a personal place. "I think we can all resonate with not being able to talk to someone you really need to talk to," he said. He also noted the challenge of translating the films' use of sound into a comic format. "How to apply that to a comic was the challenge that most interested me about this project."
The comic moves the franchise to a new environment. Previous entries were set on land, including an island in A Quiet Place Part II, where water was thought to be safe. Rising Tides uses the ocean setting to add new tension, with a hurricane looming.
IDW has released preview pages showing a bittersweet reunion between parent and child that is quickly interrupted by the invasion. The comic hits stands Nov. 18, with final order cutoff Oct. 12.
