Bloodaxe: Prime Video’s Norse Epic Unveils First Look

Screen Rant reports the 10 new images from the Vikings-meets-Game of Thrones series, created by Michael Hirst and his son.

Prime Video has released a first look at Bloodaxe, its upcoming series that blends the worlds of Vikings and Game of Thrones. The show was first announced in 2025, with Vikings creator Michael Hirst serving as co-creator and co-showrunner alongside his son, Horatio Hirst. Screen Rant broke the news.

Xavier Molyneux stars as the Norse raider Erik Bloodaxe, with Jessica Madsen playing his wife, Gunnhild, Mother of Kings. The couple fights to win the throne in Norway, facing rivalries, betrayals and an approaching war. The cast also includes Karlis Arnolds Avots, Levi Miller, Alina Tomnikov, Sisse Marie, Rune Tempte, Jesper Christensen and Rod Hallett.

No premiere date has been set, but the 10 first-look images give a sense of the scale. One photo shows Miller’s Haakon the Good on a beach with ships behind him; another has him riding into battle with his army. Other images capture Erik Bloodaxe raising his ax mid-yell and sharing a kiss with Gunnhild in a moment of peace.

What the Images Tell Us

The tone leans toward epic battles and intimate moments, with the Norse setting front and center. The Hirsts’ track record with historical drama (Vikings, The Last Kingdom) suggests a grounded approach, though the Game of Thrones comparison hints at political scheming and violence.

Screen Rant reports that the series is currently in production or post-production, given the finished first-look images. Subscribers should expect a release window announcement later this year.
