Firefly #1 launching April 2027 with Mal, Simon, Kaylee, Zoë, Wash and Jayne returning
Dynamite Entertainment's new series brings six classic characters back for episodic adventures, according to a press release shared with Screen Rant.

Dynamite Entertainment has confirmed a spring 2027 launch window for its new "Firefly" comic series, with writer Mark Russell and artist Lorenzo Re.
Screen Rant reports the series is "now set for launch in April" per a Dynamite press release. The publisher initially announced the series last summer with a planned September debut, but delayed it. Dynamite also pushed the similarly delayed "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel" series, saying: "We pushed [the Firefly] series back as we felt it best to launch the trilogy of titles near each other for fans."
Six returning characters are confirmed. A synopsis for issue #1 reveals Mal Reynolds is "desperate for cash to keep Serenity flying, while Simon and Kaylee must pose as a married couple to pull off a heist, but end up with more than they bargained for when an old caper comes back to haunt them." Dynamite's press release also confirms Zoë and Wash will appear, and the main cover by Bob Quinn shows all five plus Jayne Cobb in his signature knit cap.
Dynamite says the series will be presented as "episodic adventures." Russell, a longtime fan of the show, shared his approach: "I think Firefly was what first exposed to me what a hollow concept genre can be. What you really want to do is to create a cast of characters that, as different as they may be, as much as they may not like each other, only to realize how much they need each other to survive. Which is true of all of us. And, just like the show, life is sometimes a western, sometimes a rom-com, sometimes darkly funny, and other times scary as hell. That's what you want to capture."
