Get Jiro: DC's Animated Crime Thriller Arrives Alongside Lanterns Finale

The new TV-MA series from DC Studios debuted on Adult Swim and HBO Max the same day as the Lanterns season 1 finale.

According to Screen Rant, Get Jiro debuted on Adult Swim at midnight on October 3 and landed on HBO Max on October 4 — the same day the Lanterns season 1 finale aired. The 10-episode animated series gives DC fans something new to watch without a wait.

The Premise

Get Jiro is set in a post-apocalyptic Los Angeles where chefs hold ultimate power and people kill for restaurant reservations. The story follows Jiro, a sushi chef voiced by Brian Tee, who seeks revenge while getting caught in a gang war between Bob (Titus Welliver) and Rose (Alison Pill). The series is based on the comic of the same name by the late Anthony Bourdain and Joel Rose, published under DC's Vertigo imprint.

Each episode runs 22 to 23 minutes, making it easy to sample. The first two episodes — "Pilot" and "Meat Is Murder" — are available now.

Cast and Reception

Welliver, known for his role in Bosch, plays the menacing gangster Bob. Tee brings an enigmatic edge to the lead, and Pill rounds out the core trio. The series has earned an 83% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes so far.

Watch it. If you liked the dark detective tone of Lanterns and want something with a culinary twist, Get Jiro offers bloody action, vibrant animation and a fresh premise that doesn't overstay its short episodes.
