Godzilla Minus Zero Early Release Announced for Godzilla Day

The sequel, a Japanese production shot natively for IMAX, opens Nov. 3 with a 97% Rotten Tomatoes score.

Godzilla Minus Zero is getting an early release. Screen Rant reports the film will open Nov. 3 to celebrate Godzilla Day. It is also the first Japanese production natively filmed for IMAX, a milestone the outlet reports.

The character Godzilla was created by Toho in 1954 as a metaphor for the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the dangers of nuclear weapons. Producer Tomoyuki Tanaka conceived the concept after looking at the ocean on a flight, drawing inspiration from King Kong and The Beast. Director Takashi Yamazaki directs the new sequel.

Screen Rant also notes the film has already earned a 97% Rotten Tomatoes score from critics who saw it ahead of the theatrical run, which the outlet calls record-breaking.
