Lucy Hale to Lead Rom-Com Series 'Scarlett Holmes'

The Roku Channel has ordered a limited series where a descendant of Sherlock Holmes solves romantic mysteries instead of crimes, reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

Lucy Hale

The Hollywood Reporter reports that The Roku Channel has greenlit a limited series called "Scarlett Holmes," starring Lucy Hale as the title character, a descendant of the famous detective who uses inherited observational powers to tackle love and dating problems rather than murder and theft.

Hale, best known for "Pretty Little Liars" and last year's "F*** Marry Kill," will play Scarlett alongside a sidekick named Jane Watson. The official description says the pair "help clients navigate mixed signals, secret crushes, romantic dilemmas, and everything in between." Scarlett’s own romantic life proves trickier: she falls for a podcast producer named Ollie Moriarty, who is secretly planning an exposé on her methods.

"I am a true diehard fan of romantic comedies, and Scarlett Holmes has that special something that made me fall in love with the genre in the first place," Hale told THR. "It’s charming, sexy, funny, and has a lot of heart."

The series comes from Jaggi Entertainment and writers Paris Herbert-Taylor and Katie Wilbert. Brian Tannenbaum, head of Roku Originals, called it "a smart, sophisticated series" that celebrates romance and mystery together.

"Scarlett Holmes" is expected to premiere on the Roku Channel in 2027. Each episode draws inspiration from a beloved romantic comedy, so expect plenty of nods to the genre.

The real question: Will Scarlett inherit the deerstalker hat or swap it for a love-diary? My theory is that by episode three, the Moriarty-exposé subplot flips into something darker, but the show's tone suggests we're in for a playful ride, not a detective thriller.
