Screen Rant reports that Disney and Sony's "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" has been removed from 685 theaters after earning $2.5 billion worldwide. The film began its theatrical run on July 31 and became available to purchase or rent on digital platforms including Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home on October 6.

While losing that many screens sounds dramatic, it's typical for a movie that has been in theaters for over two months. What's unusual is that "Brand New Day" is the highest-grossing movie of 2026 and the third highest-grossing of all time, behind only "Avatar" and "Avengers: Endgame" (which reclaimed its spot after the Encore re-release).

Critics and audiences agree on the film's quality. On Rotten Tomatoes, it holds a "Certified Fresh" 90% critics score and a "Verified Hot" 97% audience score. Screen Rant's own review gave it 7 out of 10 stars, calling it "the best outing of [Tom] Holland's Spider-Man movies." Reviewers praised its grounded storytelling, focus on Spider-Man rather than the larger MCU, and timely exploration of mental health.

A re-release may be in the works. Screen Rant notes reports that a version with never-before-seen footage, including Rosario Dawson's Claire Temple, could follow the model of "Avengers: Endgame Encore." That earlier re-release added post-credits scenes to help set up "Avengers: Doomsday," which arrives December 18.

For families still hoping to see it on the big screen, many theaters continue to show the movie. And with the digital release now live, those who missed it can watch at home.

Collider reports the re-release earned $126 million worldwide but locked one of four new scenes behind pricier Infinity Vision tickets, a move that could reshape how Disney handles future Marvel films.
