The Witcher: Legacy Board Game Arrives in 2027, Tells School of the Wolf Story

CD Projekt Red and Go On Board's officially licensed board game explores the sacking of Kaer Morhen and the downfall of the School of the Wolf.

The Witcher: Legacy, an officially licensed board game from Go On Board and CD Projekt Red, is set to begin shipping its English-language edition in June 2027, Screen Rant reports.

The story-driven board game takes place long before the era of Geralt of Rivia. It focuses on the attack on Kaer Morhen, a defining tragedy that led to the decline of the School of the Wolf. Players control surviving Witchers from the school, exploring Kaedwen, hunting monsters and managing resources in a campaign divided across interconnected scenarios.

What to expect

Designed for one to four players in solo or co-op mode, Legacy features decision-making that impacts later stages of the game. Character progression uses deck-building elements, skill development, investigation and combat. The format of a campaign with carryover decisions gives the game more room to explore its narrative than a traditional standalone board game, Screen Rant writes.

The timeline

Gamefound backers who supported the crowdfunding campaign will receive priority fulfillment. Production is planned for January through June 2026, though developers caution that shipping dates could change and may vary by location. A retail release will follow after backer fulfillment.

The game arrives during a packed period for the Witcher franchise. Andrzej Sapkowski is working on a new Witcher novel that could arrive around the same time as The Witcher 4, which is likely to release in 2028 based on recent reports. The final season of Netflix's The Witcher series is also set to air sometime in 2027.
