Transformers: Michael Bay in Talks to Return, Spielberg to Oversee

The franchise goes back to its 2007 roots with familiar names and a modern-day script.

**Reported by Deadline** (via Screen Rant): Steven Spielberg is set to oversee the creative direction of the next live-action Transformers movie, working with producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura. Michael Bay is in early talks to return as director, seven years after he left the franchise following 2017's The Last Knight.

The movie will be based on a script by Jason Fuchs and take place in the present day. Plot and casting details are still under wraps.

Let's be honest: bringing back the guy who said he was done with Transformers is not a sign of fresh thinking. Bay's departure in 2017 was supposed to open the door for new voices. Instead, Paramount is circling back to the team that launched the billion-dollar run. That's playing it safe, not smart.

Fuchs's involvement at least suggests a clean slate. He wrote Wonder Woman and the upcoming Argylle, so the studio isn't hiring an unknown. But with Bay in early talks and Spielberg in an oversight role, this feels like an attempt to replicate the 2007 magic without admitting the series has been running on fumes since Dark of the Moon.

For now, call this a **Rumor** until a deal closes. But the direction is clear: more of the same, louder, and with the same two guys who started it.
